Hello and welcome to the City of Cayce, South Carolina web site. We hope that the information on our city by the river will be helpful to you whether you’re a lifelong resident, a newcomer to our community or planning to visit or relocate.
With a rich historical heritage, the City of Cayce includes the site of one of the earliest European settlements in what was then known as the "back country." Cayce also contains the site of Fort Granby, where several important Revolutionary War battles were fought. In May 1914 when the city was formed, the name Cayce was chosen to honor one of its prominent citizens, William J. Cayce.
Today, Cayce is the home of more than 12,100 citizens. Linked to the interstate system at multiple points and adjacent to the international airport, Cayce offers quick access to jobs, shopping, entertainment and the world. Because of Cayce’s convenient location, additional cultural and recreational amenities of the Midlands are just minutes away.
The Congaree River has always played a dominant role of strategic importance in Cayce’s development. Through the joint effort of the City of Cayce and the River Alliance, the Cayce Riverwalk along the Congaree provides a peaceful and natural setting for walking, jogging, and enjoying nature. Development on both sides of the river is a driving force in the continuing economic development of the City of Cayce.
As you browse our site, you will learn about our history, current activities, outstanding museum and special Christmas events, and our plans for the continued growth of our community. Updates will be made frequently, so stop in again soon!
On behalf of all the members of City Council, we thank you for your visit and welcome your comments and suggestions. Please feel free to e-mail us at cmcayce@sc.rr.com if we can answer any further questions.
